WELCOME
Pete's Little Patch is the garden at 9 Tannsfield Drive, Hemel Hempstead owned by Peter and Gaynor Barrett.
The garden is one of some 3500 gardens in England and Wales that can be visited by members of the public under The National Garden Scheme (Gardens open for charity).
Why “Little Patch”? Well the garden is approximately 50 feet long by 25 feet wide. One visitor from the Hardy Plant Society has described it as “A large garden in a small space”. Which, is a fair point, when you consider that there are over 450 plants, 5 water features, 5 seating areas, a mini kitchen garden, a fernery, a “tunnel”, 3 pergolas and a shed all contained within Pete’s Little Patch. Add to that shade planting, gravel planting, some wall art, mirrors, statues, pots and a few “dangly” things and you will appreciate the garden becomes a very interesting space with lots to see.
Peter and Gaynor moved to the property during April 1983. Since that time Peter has had an ongoing project to work on ways to “improve” the look, the feel and to add interest to the garden.
The ideas for and development of the garden are mainly from Peter with Gaynor being a very important “sounding board”.
Gaynor also bakes the delicious cakes that are available on open days.
